Fiji digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Fiji shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Fiji has no dedicated digital nomad or remote-work visa. Remote workers most commonly enter on a visa-free tourist/visitor permit (up to 4 months for most nationalities), which occupies a legal grey area for remote work. Longer-term stays are possible via the Residence on Assured Income Permit or the Investor Permit, neither of which is designed specifically for digital nomads.
Key points
As of May 2026, the official Fiji Ministry of Immigration website lists no digital nomad or remote-work visa category. Claims of a 'Fiji Digital Nomad Visa' on third-party aggregator sites are not corroborated by any official source.
Most Western nationalities (US, UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand, Canada) may enter Fiji visa-free and remain as visitors for up to 4 months. Working remotely for a foreign employer in this status is a legal grey area — the visitor permit neither explicitly permits nor prohibits it.
Available to applicants aged 45 and over who hold sufficient assets outside Fiji. Requires a deposit of FJD 100,000 into a local resident bank account (waivable if property is purchased in Fiji), plus FJD 30,000–40,000 deposited annually for family members. The permit holder may not seek employment in Fiji.
Foreign nationals who intend to invest in and operate a business in Fiji may apply for an Investor Permit. This is aimed at active business investors, not passive remote workers, and requires a demonstrable business investment in Fiji.
All standard Fiji work permits (short-term, long-term, time-post, etc.) require sponsorship by a locally established Fijian employer or organisation. Self-employed remote workers earning from abroad do not qualify under these categories. From 23 April 2025, all applications must comply strictly with the Immigration Act 2003; previous Qualified Employer and SPEC frameworks are no longer accepted.
Fiji does not operate a golden visa or formal residency-by-investment programme. The nearest equivalent is the Investor Permit (active business investment) and the Assured Income Permit (passive wealth/retirement). Neither confers a fast-track to citizenship.
