Tuvalu digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Tuvalu shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Tuvalu has no dedicated digital-nomad or remote-work visa. Visitors receive a 30-day entry permit on arrival, and longer stays require a 'permit to enter and reside' (granted up to one year, renewable) issued for purposes such as conducting business, employment, study, research, or family — the only route a relocating remote worker could plausibly use. There is no residency-by-investment / golden-visa program despite promotional sites claiming otherwise.
Key points
Tuvalu does not offer any digital-nomad or remote-work-specific visa; the Immigration Act and 2014 Regulations contain no such category. Remote workers entering as tourists get only a short-term visitor permit.
No visa is required for most nationalities for stays up to 30 days; a one-month entry permit is issued on arrival with a valid passport (6+ months), onward ticket, sufficient funds, and proof of accommodation.
The Principal Immigration Officer may grant a 'permit to enter and reside' for business, employment, study, research, cultural/religious, or family purposes — generally valid for up to one year and renewable. A remote worker would need to fit one of these heads (e.g. conducting business), as there is no remote-work category.
Working in Tuvalu requires a permit tied to a specific employer/job, with sponsorship or a letter of employment obtained before entry — this route is for local employment, not foreign-employer remote work.
Per the 2014 Regulations, a residence permit costs AUD 600 (+AUD 150/dependent) if applying from outside Tuvalu, or AUD 1,200 (+AUD 300/dependent) if applying while resident in-country.
Tuvalu has no residency- or citizenship-by-investment program; permanent residency is restrictive and discretionary. Commercial 'Tuvalu golden visa' offerings are not reflected in Tuvalu's own immigration law.
