Tajikistan shaded by its digital nomad & residency status

Tajikistan has no dedicated digital-nomad or remote-work visa, and no freelance/self-employed route exists for remote workers. Foreigners typically enter visa-free (30 days for ~52 nationalities) or on the single-entry e-visa (up to 45 days), neither of which permits employment; long-term legal work requires an employer-sponsored work visa plus a work permit, while an investor visa offers residency only to those committing substantial capital.

Key points

No digital-nomad visa

The MFA's standard visa categories are Diplomatic (Д), Official (Х), Investment (С), Business (К), Work (М) and Tourist (Т). There is no remote-work or digital-nomad category, and none of the existing categories targets location-independent remote workers.

Short-stay entry only

The e-visa is single-entry, valid 90 days with a maximum stay of 45 days from arrival; separately, citizens of ~52 countries enjoy unilateral visa-free entry for up to 30 days. Neither status authorizes work.

Work requires employer sponsorship

Legal employment requires a Work visa (М) plus a work permit issued by the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; permits are granted for up to one year and must be renewed. There is no self-employed/freelance permit for individual remote workers.

Investor visa (residency-by-investment)

The Investment visa (С) is issued to heads of companies that actually invest in Tajikistan's economy, requiring confirmed foreign direct investment of at least USD 500,000; it is granted for up to 3 years. This is the closest residency route but is investment-based, not a remote-work pathway.

No standalone golden-visa program

Tajikistan does not operate a separate residency-by-investment/golden-visa scheme; investor residency runs through the ordinary Investment (С) visa under the Law on Investments and the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens.

Mandatory registration

Foreign nationals staying beyond a short window must register with the competent authorities (within roughly 10 days of arrival), a prerequisite for any longer-term residence formalities.
