Suriname digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Suriname shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Suriname has no dedicated digital-nomad or remote-work visa and no residency-by-investment / golden-visa programme. Foreigners intending to stay longer than 90 days must obtain an MKV before travel and then convert it to a residence permit through standard grounds (employment, self-employment/business, study, or family). Remote workers and relocators must therefore fit one of these general long-stay routes; employment routes require an employer-sponsored work permit, while self-employed/business activity is handled case-by-case.
Key points
Suriname does not offer a digital-nomad or remote-work visa. Long-stay foreigners are channelled through the general MKV/residence-permit system rather than any remote-work-specific category.
Anyone not of Surinamese origin wishing to stay longer than 90 days must apply for an Authorization for Temporary Stay (MKV) about three months before arrival, lodged at a Surinamese diplomatic/consular post and finalized with the Department for Registration of Foreigners in Paramaribo.
Foreign nationals who will work must add a labour/employment contract, employer reference letter and a work permit to the MKV file; the work permit is issued by the Ministry of Labour and is employer-sponsored, and a residence permit is also required to work legally.
Relocators and investors must use existing immigration and labour channels; establishing a legitimate local business or self-employment can support an MKV/residence application, but there is no fast-track investor visa.
Suriname operates no formal residency- or citizenship-by-investment programme; residency is obtained only through the standard MKV/residence-permit grounds (work, study, family, business).
A visa is not issued while the MKV is pending; after MKV approval the applicant must present valid medical insurance covering the full stay before final stamping in Paramaribo. An official e-Visa system (VFS Global partner) handles short-stay entry separately.
