Samoa digital nomad visa: requirements (2026)

As of 2026, Samoa has not launched any digital nomad, remote-work, or location-independent worker visa scheme. It does not appear on any official or credible compiled list of countries offering such programmes.

Citizens of most nationalities receive a 90-day visitor permit on arrival. Work is explicitly not permitted under this permit; undertaking employment without authorisation is a statutory offence under the Immigration Act 2020.

Temporary Resident Permits for employment purposes are granted only in respect of a specific, nominated Samoan employer. There is no self-employment or freelance permit category for persons working remotely for foreign clients.

Temporary Resident Permits also cover family reunion/support, academic or scientific research, and cultural or religious purposes, but none of these categories accommodate remote work or location-independent income. Processing takes 4-6 weeks.

Permanent Resident status requires extensive long-term lawful residence (typically 10+ years) and meeting character and financial criteria; there is no fast-track residency-by-investment or golden-visa programme available in Samoa.

Samoa's low cost of living and improving connectivity have attracted informal digital nomad interest, and local media has described Samoa as a 'perfect choice for digital nomads,' but this reflects lifestyle appeal rather than any formalised visa pathway.
