Saint Kitts and Nevis shaded by its digital nomad & residency status

Saint Kitts and Nevis has no officially verified dedicated digital nomad visa — third-party aggregators reference a 'Remote Work Stay' programme said to have launched in 2022, but this does not appear in official gov.kn immigration pages. Remote workers can legally reside under visitor entry (up to 90 days visa-free for most nationalities under the eTA system introduced May 2025) or apply for a Temporary Residence Permit for stays beyond three months; neither pathway explicitly prohibits earning income from foreign-registered employers. The country's flagship route for long-term residency and citizenship is its Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme, the world's oldest, requiring a minimum contribution of USD 250,000.

Key points

No confirmed dedicated digital nomad visa

Despite some third-party sources claiming a 'Remote Work Stay' digital nomad visa was launched in 2022, official Saint Kitts and Nevis government portals (gov.kn, embassydc.gov.kn, stkittsnevishcuk.gov.kn) do not list a dedicated digital nomad visa category as of 2026. Status remains unconfirmed via official channels.

Visitor / eTA entry (short stays)

Citizens of most countries may enter visa-free for up to 90 days. An Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system was introduced on 26 May 2025 (single-entry, valid 90 days, USD 17); nationals requiring a visa may apply for an e-Visa and receive a visa on arrival (max 30 days, USD 100). Remote workers earning from abroad are not explicitly prohibited from working during a visitor stay.

Temporary Residence Permit (stays over 3 months)

Foreigners intending to stay longer than three months must obtain a Temporary Residence Permit from the Ministry of the Prime Minister. Fees are approximately USD 300–750 for six months and USD 600–1,500 for twelve months; permits expire on 31 December annually and must be renewed between October and December. The permit does not grant the right to work for a local employer, but does not bar remote work for foreign-registered companies.

Citizenship by Investment (CBI) — golden-visa pathway

Established in 1984, the St. Kitts and Nevis CBI Programme is the world's oldest. Current investment routes include the Sustainable Island State Contribution (SISC, minimum USD 250,000), the Public Benefit Option, and Private/Developer Real Estate options. Citizenship confers the right of abode. In October 2025, the National Assembly passed the Eastern Caribbean Citizenship by Investment Regulatory Authority (ECCIRA) Bill, creating a new regional oversight body.

Permanent residency via property ownership

A conventional path to permanent residency (short of CBI citizenship) exists for retired expatriates who have purchased property in Saint Kitts and Nevis valued at a minimum of USD 350,000 and held it for at least seven years. This route does not require active investment in approved government funds.

Caribbean region remote-work initiatives

Saint Kitts and Nevis has participated in broader Caribbean remote-work promotion campaigns (covered by The St Kitts Nevis Observer), but these are marketing/tourism initiatives and do not constitute a formal immigration category distinct from existing visitor and residence permit frameworks.
