Palau digital nomad visa & residency (2026)

Palau's BCBP immigration framework offers tourist, resident, dependent, work-permit, and immigrant categories, but no category is specifically designated for remote workers or digital nomads as of 2026.

Established under a dedicated Act and run by the Digital Residency Office within the Ministry of Finance, the program issues a sovereign-backed blockchain identity. Enrolled digital residents may apply for up to two consecutive 90-day tourist-visa extensions per calendar year, enabling stays of roughly 6 months annually.

The Digital Residency Program explicitly does not grant physical residency rights, a pathway to citizenship, or authorisation to work for a Palauan employer. It is primarily a digital identity and tax-presence facilitation instrument.

Most nationalities receive a 30-day visa on arrival (extendable twice at USD 50 per extension under standard rules). US citizens are admitted for up to one year under the Compact of Free Association.

Foreign nationals who wish to work for a Palauan employer must obtain an employer-sponsored labour permit from the Bureau of Labor and Human Resources; no self-employed or freelance permit category for remote workers exists.

A Resident Visa valid for up to two years may be issued at the Director of Immigration's discretion to foreign nationals demonstrating lawful purpose and financial self-sufficiency; no dedicated investment-residency or golden-visa programme exists.
