Oman digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Oman shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Oman has no officially listed dedicated digital-nomad visa on the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal. Remote workers and freelancers can pursue legal residency through a Ministry of Labour freelance/self-employment permit, which acts as self-sponsorship, or through the investor-oriented Golden Visa (10-year, OMR 500,000+) or Silver Visa (5-year, OMR 250,000+) programmes launched in August 2025. A property-owner residence visa is also available to real-estate investors.
Key points
The Royal Oman Police eVisa portal lists visa categories including employment, investor, family, student, and property-owner — no stand-alone 'digital nomad' visa category is published by the official authority as of mid-2026.
The Ministry of Labour issues freelance permits allowing self-employed professionals (IT, consulting, digital marketing, creative services, etc.) to self-sponsor residency without a local employer. Fragomen confirmed this pathway in their March 2025 analysis of Oman's immigration reforms. Validity is typically one to two years, renewable.
Launched 31 August 2025, the Golden Visa grants 10-year renewable residency to those who invest OMR 500,000+ in an Omani LLC, public joint-stock company, or government bonds; purchase property worth OMR 500,000+; or establish a company employing at least 50 Omani nationals. Administered through the Invest Oman / omanresidence.gov.om platform.
The Silver Visa, part of the same August 2025 programme, grants 5-year renewable residency for investment of OMR 250,000+ in an Omani LLC or public joint-stock company, or property purchase of OMR 250,000+. Both tiers allow sponsorship of spouse, children, and dependent parents.
Separately from the Golden Residency Programme, the Royal Oman Police lists a 'Property Owner Visa' and 'Investor Visa' among standard residence categories on the eVisa portal, providing additional property-linked residency pathways.
Oman currently levies no personal income tax, making it fiscally attractive for relocating remote workers. Plans reported for a 5% personal income tax from 2028 onward have circulated but no implementing legislation had been enacted as of mid-2026.
