Liberia digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Liberia shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Liberia has no dedicated digital nomad or remote-work visa. Remote workers may enter on tourist or business visas (valid up to 90 days) or seek a Resident Permit for longer stays. The formal work permit system is employer-sponsored and requires Ministry of Labour certification that no qualified Liberian is available, making it inapplicable to remote workers employed by foreign entities.
Key points
As of May 2026, Liberia has not introduced any specific digital nomad, remote-work, or freelancer visa category. No such programme has been announced by the Liberia Immigration Service or any government ministry.
Foreigners may obtain a Visa on Arrival (valid 30 or 90 days, single-entry) for tourism or business, or apply via a Liberian embassy for single-entry visas up to 3 months or multiple-entry visas valid 1–3 years. ECOWAS citizens require only a valid passport.
The LIS issues Resident Permits to non-citizens wishing to stay beyond 90 days or those residing in Liberia long-term. This is the closest available route for a remote worker seeking an extended, legally-sanctioned stay, though it carries no explicit remote-work entitlement.
Liberia's work permit (Ministry of Labour Regulation No. 17, 2025) is employer-driven: the sponsoring Liberian entity initiates the application, the Ministry must certify no qualified Liberian can fill the role, and fees are USD 1,000/year (Category A). This framework does not accommodate remote workers employed by foreign companies.
A Re-entry Permit Card allows non-citizens to exit and re-enter Liberia without applying for a fresh Visa on Arrival each time. A RESIDENCE type is available for those holding a valid Resident Permit; a SPECIAL type is available for other foreigners. This supports multi-trip access but does not confer work authorisation.
Liberia digitised its work permit system in 2022 and launched a new digital Visa on Arrival and Re-entry Permit issuing system on 11 March 2025, indicating ongoing immigration modernisation. No remote-work visa component was introduced alongside these reforms.
