Lesotho digital nomad visa & residency (2026)

Lesotho is not among the 60+ jurisdictions offering a digital-nomad or remote-work visa as of 2026; no such product appears in the Ministry of Home Affairs immigration offering. Neighbouring South Africa and Namibia have such schemes, but Lesotho does not.

Lesotho has no work-specific visa; foreigners typically enter and then apply to the Department of Immigration for a combined work and residence permit, valid for an initial period of up to two years at the Director's discretion.

A two-year residence permit is issued under defined categories including business people, joining-relative, spouse-joining-spouse, missionaries, and professionals such as doctors, nurses and teachers; temporary permits run 90 days and indefinite permits also exist.

A Business People Permit is issued to applicants who own or wish to open a business in Lesotho (a two-year residence-permit category); self-employed/contractor applicants must register and comply with local tax law. This is the closest fit for an independent remote worker relocating.

Lesotho operates no formal residency-by-investment or citizenship-by-investment programme; high-net-worth applicants cannot obtain status purely through qualifying investment.

Non-Basotho who reside lawfully in Lesotho for five or more years may become eligible to apply for Lesotho citizenship, providing a longer-term settlement route after using the permit channels above.
