Djibouti digital nomad visa: requirements (2026)

Djibouti appears in none of the major 2025-2026 compilations of dedicated digital-nomad or remote-work visa programmes, and no official government announcement of such a programme has been identified.

A standard Djiboutian work visa and work permit must be sponsored by a registered Djiboutian employer; contractors, freelancers, and consultants working remotely for foreign clients are explicitly ineligible for the long-stay work visa and may only obtain short-stay visas.

A 12-month multiple-entry long-stay visa exists but requires the applicant to simultaneously file for a residence and/or work permit, both of which in turn require either a local employment contract or proof of business investment in Djibouti.

Foreign entrepreneurs who establish and invest in a company in Djibouti may qualify for a business investor residence permit issued by the Investment Promotion Agency; this is not a remote-work route but is the closest available pathway for self-employed individuals.

The Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority offers bundled immigration services, entry visa, residence permit, work permit, but only to employees of companies registered within its free zones, not to independent remote workers.

Djibouti has no formal golden visa or passive residency-by-investment scheme; permanent residence requires extended lawful physical residence, and citizenship by naturalisation requires at least 10 years of legal residence.
