Belize digital nomad visa & residency (2026)
Belize shaded by its digital nomad & residency status
Belize operates a dedicated digital-nomad pathway, the 'Work Where You Vacation' program, which lets remote workers employed by or serving clients outside Belize live there for up to six months (extendable) by meeting income and insurance thresholds. Separately, relocators aged 40+ can use the long-standing Qualified Retired Persons (QRP) Incentive Programme, and others can convert a year of legal residence into permanent residency. There is no traditional golden visa today, though a $500,000 investor fast-track to permanent residency was proposed in late 2025 and is not yet in force.
Key points
The 'Work Where You Vacation' program is open to remote workers employed by or serving clients based outside Belize; applicants must not work for any Belizean employer or client during their stay.
Requires proof of annual income of at least USD $75,000 (individual) or USD $100,000 (couples/families), travel insurance with minimum USD $50,000 coverage, a clean criminal record, and a notarized banking reference.
The nomad permit allows a stay of six months, with possibility to extend; enrollment costs roughly BZD $500 per adult and BZD $200 per child under 18.
Under the Retired Persons (Incentives) Act, applicants aged 40+ with at least USD $2,000/month (USD $24,000/year) of foreign income can obtain a renewable QRP residency card; only ~30 consecutive days per year in Belize are required to maintain status.
Foreigners who legally reside in Belize for at least one year (without leaving more than 14 days total) and can show financial stability may apply for permanent residence through the Immigration Department.
Belize has no traditional citizenship/residency-by-investment golden visa today; businesspersons can pursue temporary residence with ~BZD $500,000 invested, and a proposed USD $500,000 investor fast-track to permanent residency was floated in late 2025 but is not yet finalized or open.
