Why do my parallel agents stall forever when two of them need the same thing?
κΈ°ν
When I run multiple autonomous agents in parallel toward a shared goal, they can deadlock (each waiting on a resource or output that the other holds) or produce conflicting side effects that cancel each other out. Standard orchestration frameworks track task completion but have no mechanism for detecting coordination impasse. Unlike database transactions, there is no two-phase commit or rollback primitive for agentic workflows. The HiveMind scheduling paper and the Agent Contracts work accepted at AAMAS 2026 both document this gap formally but neither provides a deployable runtime that agent frameworks can integrate against today.

A coordination primitive that detects and breaks deadlocks is the missing safety layer between orchestration frameworks and production-grade multi-agent systems.
