Why does my DApp go offline every time one cloud provider has a bad day?

Opportunity

Infura and Alchemy together carry the majority of Ethereum-compatible RPC traffic. When AWS us-east-1 had a DNS failure in October 2025, Infura went dark and MetaMask plus thousands of DApps stopped working: transactions queued, liquidations missed, yield positions closed silently. This same cascade happened in 2022, 2023, and twice between 2025 and 2026. Running your own archive node is the correct answer but costs hundreds of dollars per month and requires storage that grows without bound. Decentralized RPC networks like Pocket and Lava exist but lack the wallet and framework SDK integrations needed for automatic failover that is transparent to the developer.

Why it matters

The decentralized label on these networks means nothing if the SDK every wallet ships still points to a single HTTP endpoint.

How I score the opportunity

The Opportunity Score is my own read, not a measurement: how much it hurts, how often it bites, and how little exists to solve it today. Higher means I think it is more worth building.

Severity9/10

How much pain it causes when it shows up.

Frequency6/10

How often people actually run into it.

Whitespace7/10

How little good tooling exists for it today.
