How do I know the income my tokenized property reports on-chain is real?
Opportunity
Tokenized real-world assets promise programmable income distribution, but the income itself originates entirely off-chain. Rent is collected by a property manager, loan repayments flow through a bank, and bond coupons pass through a custodian. Someone must attest that the amount pushed on-chain matches what was actually received, and today that attestation is almost always a trusted party with no cryptographic proof attached. A 2026 systematization-of-knowledge survey covering all major RWA tokenization architectures concluded that the off-chain data integrity layer is the least mature component across every deployment category examined. Token holders have no mechanism to verify the cash flow report without trusting the issuer, which reintroduces the exact counterparty risk tokenization was supposed to remove.
Why it matters
Without a verifiable link between real-world income and on-chain distribution, tokenized assets carry an irreducible custodian risk that no amount of smart-contract logic can eliminate.
How I score the opportunity
The Opportunity Score is my own read, not a measurement: how much it hurts, how often it bites, and how little exists to solve it today. Higher means I think it is more worth building.
How much pain it causes when it shows up.
How often people actually run into it.
How little good tooling exists for it today.
More problems worth solving
